2022 Junior Calendar Contest Rules and Regulations

How to enter

We will be accepting photographs, essays, drawings and other forms of artwork (traditional and digital) as entries for our Youth Calendar Contest. The contest is open to students and youth from Kindergarten to grade 12.

The theme of the contest is: What is your favourite place in the Athabasca Watershed?

You can submit more than one photo/artwork/essay, but once submitted entries can not be changed, edited, or replaced. Multiple submissions are allowed.

For more information about whether your submission features a location in the watershed, click here.

Submissions

Contest submissions may be submitted here on the AWC website, emailed to admin@awc-wpac.ca, or mailed directly to the Athabasca Watershed Council at 5101 50th avenue, PO Box 1058, Athabasca AB, T9S 2A8. Please note that entries sent by email/mail by a contestant under the age 18 must include this waiver, signed by a parent/guardian approving their participation in the contest.

If you have any questions about how to submit an entry, or any other questions relating to the photo contest, please contact us at admin@awc-wpac.ca or call 780-213-0343.

Contest Requirements

All submissions must be appropriate for a public audience. Submissions must not have explicit materials, violence, inappropriate language or otherwise inappropriate content. That includes any content that could be considered disrespectful or harmful to the AWC, or other groups, individuals, or institutions.

Submissions must be created by the Contestant. Submissions must not have any elements that are under someone else’s copyright, unless they have permission from the owner. In other words, submissions cannot copy or feature someone else’s work.

By submitting content to the Contest, the Contestant is indicating that they have obtained written consent from any individuals featured in a photograph or artwork. The Contestant (or their parent/guardian if they are a minor) should be able to supply proof of that consent upon request.

The AWC reserves the right to disqualify any submissions that do not meet the letter or intent of the Official Contest Rules.

Judging

All submissions that meet the contest requirements will be reviewed by a panel of judges. 14 submissions will be selected as the contest winners (a cover photo winner, a December 2021 winner, and winners for the 12 calendar months of 2022). All decisions of the contest judges will be final.

The winning submissions will be posted on the AWC Instagram account (@awc_wpac) after the contest closes. The AWC may alter the submission to follow posting requirements on Instagram. The Contestant may submit a square cropped version of their submission for use on social media.

Eligibility

The Contest begins at 9:00 am on August 16th, 2021, and closes at 11:59 pm on September 30th, 2021. Entries must be received by the contest closing date. For mail submissions, ensure that they will be received by the AWC before the contest closing date. The AWC is not responsible for entries that don’t meet the contest deadline. Winners’ names and winning submissions will be posted on our website and various social media accounts.

The person submitting content (or a minor whose content is submitted with help from their parent or guardian) will be considered the Contestant. The Contestant will be the only person eligible to compete for the prizes. To be eligible to win a prize, you must supply correct and complete information. All prizes must be accepted as awarded. Prizes may not be exactly as shown.

The winners of the contest will be contacted by phone or email. An attempt will be made to contact winners at least 3 times within the 7 days following the announcement of the winners. If the Contestant can’t be reached in that time, the second place Contestant will be selected.

The Athabasca Watershed Council Calendar Contest is open to students and youth ranging from grades K-12, but submissions should be about a place in the watershed. If the contestant is a minor (under 18 years old), a consent waiver must be signed by a parent or guardian and included in the submission if the submission is NOT submitted through the AWC Website (a digital waiver is included in the contest submission form.) Waivers can be emailed to admin@awc-wpac.ca, or mailed directly to the Athabasca Watershed Council at 5101 50th avenue, PO Box 1058, Athabasca AB, T9S 2A8.

Once a submission has been accepted into the contest, the contestant’s name and grade level may be published at the discretion of the AWC. All other personal information will only be used to administer the contest.

Employees of the AWC and their immediate family members are not eligible to enter the contest.

The AWC may cancel this contest in case of a technical failure, fraud, computer virus, or anything else beyond its control that affects the fairness or operation of the contest.

Participation in the contest is considered acceptance of these Official Contest Rules.
